Assessment
We provide comprehensive assessments to investigate your child’s speech, language, and communication skills.
What’s involved:
Gathering information from parents about your child’s development, strengths, challenges, and your concerns
Using a combination of standardised and informal assessment tools tailored to your child’s age and needs
Sessions are typically one hour and may require one or two appointments, depending on the areas being assessed
We also offer literacy assessments for school-aged children experiencing difficulties with reading, writing, and spelling. After the assessment, we’ll discuss the results and recommendations with you and provide a comprehensive written report.
Intervention (Therapy)
Following the assessment, we develop an individualised therapy plan with goals created in collaboration with parents.
Therapy sessions are:
Individualised to suit your child’s strengths, needs, and interests
Play-based for younger children, encouraging learning through fun and interaction
Structured with table-top and literacy-focused activities for older children
Supportive of families, with education and home follow-up included
We also work collaboratively with your child’s daycare, school, and other health professionals to ensure a consistent and holistic approach.
Our Areas Of Support
At Kids Talk Speech Pathology, we provide individualised therapy for children across a range of areas.
-
We support children who have difficulty pronouncing speech sounds clearly, making their speech hard to understand. Therapy focuses on improving articulation, speech clarity, and sound production using fun and engaging activities.
-
We work with children who have challenges with:
Understanding spoken language
Expressing themselves verbally
Using grammar and vocabulary appropriately
We also support non-speaking children by introducing Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems, such as visuals, signs, or speech-generating devices.
-
We help children develop the skills they need to use language confidently. These skills are essential for building friendships, participating in group activities, and expressing themselves effectively.
We use a play-based therapy approach, creating fun and meaningful interactions that help children learn and grow in a natural, supportive environment.
-
We support children with reading and writing difficulties, including:
Pre-literacy skills for younger children (e.g., phonological awareness, letter recognition)
Systematic synthetic phonics intervention for school-aged children
Reading, spelling, comprehension, and written expression
Our literacy programs are tailored to each child’s learning style and individual goals.
-
We use a responsive feeding therapy approach to support children who have challenges with eating and drinking.
Signs of feeding difficulties may include:
Refusing certain textures or food groups
Gagging, coughing or choking during meals
Difficulty chewing or swallowing
Long mealtimes
Limited variety in accepted foods
Anxiety or distress around mealtimes
Poor weight gain or growth concerns
